Grey Goose Vodka: A Symphony of French Excellence
Grey Goose is not just a vodka; it's a journey through the heart of France. Born in the 1990s, this brand was the brainchild of American businessman Sidney Frank. His vision was brought to life in collaboration with François Thibault, the Maître de Chai for Grey Goose, who meticulously developed the original recipe in Cognac, France.
Grey Goose's inception can be traced back to the summer of 1997, under the aegis of the Sidney Frank Importing Co (SFIC). Sidney Frank's innovative idea was to create a vodka that stood out in a saturated market. Partnering with cognac producer François Thibault, they embarked on a mission to transition Thibault's expertise from cognac to vodka production. The choice of France as the production base was strategic, leveraging the country's rich culinary history and setting Grey Goose apart from vodkas produced in Eastern Europe.
The soft winter wheat used in Grey Goose is cultivated in Picardy, France. This wheat is sown in October and harvested in August, giving it four additional growth months compared to summer wheat. After harvesting, the wheat is distilled in the Northeast of Paris and then sent to Cognac for further processing. Here, the distillate is blended with a mix of spring and bottled water. The water, a vital ingredient, is sourced from a natural spring 150 meters below the blending facility in Cognac, filtered through Champagne limestone. This process ensures the water's purity, enriching the vodka with calcium-rich spring water.
Tasting Notes:

- Aroma: Gentle hints of fresh wheat with subtle floral undertones.
- Flavour: Smooth and rounded on the palate, with a slight sweetness and a touch of almond.
- Mouthfeel: Velvety and plush, leaving a lasting impression.
Grey Goose's commitment to quality doesn't end at production. The brand takes pride in its distinctive smoked glass bottle, adorned with French geese in flight, symbolising the brand's journey. The vodka is bottled with a replaceable cork, ensuring freshness with every pour.
Grey Goose's dedication to excellence hasn't gone unnoticed. In 1998, the Beverage Testing Institute named it the best-tasting vodka in the world. The brand continued to innovate, releasing its first flavour, L’Orange, in 2001, followed by Le Citron in 2002. Its popularity soared, and by 2004, Grey Goose was the best-selling premium brand vodka in the United States.
