Old Carrick Mill Rogues Reserve Single Malt Cask 2 Irish Whiskey is a distinguished product from the Old Carrick Mill Distillery, situated in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan. This single malt Irish whiskey is crafted with precision and care, reflecting the rich heritage and innovative spirit of the distillery. Operating from an old flour mill dating back over two centuries, the distillery blends traditional methods with modern techniques to produce a whiskey of exceptional quality.
This single malt whiskey is aged in bourbon barrels before being finished in Château Magnol red wine barrels, gifted by the B&G vineyard in Bordeaux. This unique cask finish imparts a distinct character to the whiskey, with subtle hints of red wine complementing the rich malt flavours. With an ABV of 59%, this cask strength whiskey maintains its natural complexity and depth.
Producer History
The Old Carrick Mill Distillery is an artisan distillery that has revitalised the historic flour mill site in Carrickmacross. The history of the mill is intertwined with the Barton family, who also have links to the B&G vineyard in Bordeaux. Discovering this connection, Steven Murphy, the owner and founder of Old Carrick Mill, travelled to Château Magnol to trace the lineage and establish the historical link.
As a gesture of appreciation, B&G gifted 50 Château Magnol red wine barrels to Old Carrick Mill to age their whiskey. This generous gift has allowed the distillery to create unique expressions of their single malt whiskey, with the Rogues Reserve Single Malt Cask 2 being one of the special releases from these barrels. This cask was selected for its ability to showcase the rich, deep colour and ruby red fruit notes that work perfectly at 59% ABV.
